The new EA Sports FC 25 has the sound of Radiohead
EA Sports FC 25 sounds like Radiohead. That’s a figure of speech, but not that much. Electronic Arts, the American company that develops the popular video game that replaces the classic Fifa, one of the most loved titles by football fansshared the official trailer for the new edition: the video reveals more or less all the graphic and gameplay innovations that will characterize EA Sports FC 25, through the reconstruction of matches between two of the biggest European clubs, Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Little big surprise: in the background of the trailer, which lasts just over two minutes, you can hear “.Everything in its right place” by Radiohead. EA has decided to present the new version of the very popular video game to fans with the music of Thom Yorke and his friends, which will be available from September 29th For PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows and Nintendo Switch. And some Radiohead experts joke in the comments: “Licensing the Radiohead song was probably more expensive than developing the entire video game“.
It’s not the first time that Radiohead “enter” the Fifa world. It was 2004 when “Myxomatosis“, one of the songs from the album “Hail to the thief”, released the previous year, ended up in the soundtrack of Fifa 2004. The playlist included – among others – Asian Dub Foundation with “Rise to the challenge”, Goldfrapp with “Train”, Kasabian with “LSF (Lost Souls Forever)”, Kings of Leon with “Red morning light”, “our” DJ Sensei with “Musica grande” and the Brazilians Tribalistas with the hit “Já sei namorar”. And Radiohead have repeatedly given their songs to video game soundtracks over the years, in addition to Fifa: in “NBA Live 07” there was the version of their “Just” remade by Mark Ronson and Alex Greenwald, while in the cult “Rock band” it was possible to play “Creep”, “My iron lung” and “Karma police”, among others.
And now the wait is growing for the official soundtrack of EA Sports FC 25. The songs, in Fifa, are become increasingly central to the gaming experience. EA Sports began to include real soundtracks in the videogame in 1998, four years after the launch: among the first songs to be included, that year, there was also “Song 2” of the Blurstill today – twenty-five years later – considered one of the most loved by fans among all those present in the various editions of the videogame, among which there are also “The nights” by Avicii, “You should see me in a crown” by Billie Eilish, “On top of the World” by Imagine Dragons, “Love me again” by John Newman.
Over the years, the Fifa soundtrack has revealed itself to be much more than the soundtrack of a video game, becoming a sort of .thermometer that intercepts – and sometimes anticipates – the musical trends that are circulating at an international level, so much so That Record labels are competing to include their artists in the video game’s playlistswhich has often launched unknown artists, contributing to their consecration.
