The magic of Pink Floyd relives, Gemitaiz, Paky, Nas are also there
Here we are. The countdown has already started among Floydians in view of the release, this Friday, of the special reprint that celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of “Wish you where here”, an anniversary to which a whole series of activities are also dedicated. The magic of Pink Floyd and the album considered one of their masterpieces lives again fifty years after the release of the album: the special anniversary edition, entitled “Wish you were here 50”, will allow fans, for the first time, to immerse themselves more deeply in a crucial moment in the history of the British group. But among the albums coming out this week there are also those by Gemitaiz, Paky, Nas & DJ Premier and Fred Again.
Pink Floyd – “Wish you where here 50”
At the heart of this special reissue of “Wish you where here” are 6 alternate versions and previously unreleased demos that present Pink Floyd’s eighth studio album in a completely new guise. Studio rarities to be released include “The Machine Song (Roger’s demo),” the first home demo that Roger Waters originally submitted to the band, a previously unreleased instrumental mix of “Wish You Were Here” that highlights David Gilmour’s pedal steel guitar, another previously unreleased demo of “Welcome to the Machine,” “The Machine Song (Demo #2, Revisited),” and, for the first time, a complete version of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pts. 1-9)” which combines the two parts of the song in a new stereo mix created by James Guthrie. “Wish You Were Here 50” will be released in various formats: 3LP, 2CD, Blu-ray, digital and deluxe box set. The digital edition will include the original 1975 album with a new Dolby Atmos mix created by James Guthrie, Pink Floyd’s collaborator since 1979 with “The Wall”. It also includes 25 bonus tracks consisting of 9 studio rarities and 16 live recordings made by famous bootlegger Mike Millard at Pink Floyd’s concert at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on April 26, 1975 (officially released here for the first time). The live audio has been carefully restored and remastered by Steven Wilson. The 3LP and 2CD formats include the original album and nine bonus studio tracks. The deluxe box set contains all the material on 2CD, 3LP (exclusive clear vinyl) and Blu-ray, as well as a fourth LP on clear vinyl, “Live At Wembley 1974”, a replica of the Japanese 7” single “Have A Cigar” / “Welcome To The Machine”, a hardback book with previously unpublished photographs, a comic book with the tour program and a poster of the Knebworth concert.
Gemitaiz – “Elsewhere”
“‘Elsewhere’ was born from the need I felt to distance myself from today’s music market, from the charts, from the speed of streaming. It is a need motivated by the fact that today’s world is hell and that there are fewer and fewer safe places to take refuge, both physically and in the soul”: this is how Gemitaiz, an icon of the rap scene of the last twenty years, presents his new album. “Elsewhere” arrives three years after “Eclissi” and is the fifth album of unreleased songs by Davide De Luca, this is the real name of the Roman rapper, who says: “This record was my hiding place. I understood that I didn’t want to write a light record. I wanted to write an important record because now is the time to say something important, now is the time to make the most of the things I have learned in life”. Among the guests are Salmo, Coez, Neffa, Venerus, Ele A, MadMan, while the producers include Ceri, Mace, Frenetik&Orang3: “‘Elsewhere’ is not just my album, it is the album of all the musicians who played on it, it is the album of those who took the photos and followed us in the sessions, it is a community album of friends who have the same fundamental rule, to do something beautiful and authentic for the world, something that transmits a thrill or a reflection for anyone who has the courage to immerse themselves in it.”
Paky – “Gloria”
Three years after “Salvatore”, his first album, one of the best debut albums in the rap world of recent years, Paky returns with “Gloria”, out on December 12th. It is an eagerly awaited return after a long break, especially because it comes from an artist who, with just one project, has become a reference. The album takes up the central themes of his journey: the origins, the road, the relationship with Rozzano and the figure of his uncle Salvatore (here is our story), who over the years has become an integral part of his narrative. The communication of the album began with the image of the Rozzano Tower on the LED walls of Milan and with a cinematic trailer. In the video, Paky passes through places linked to its history – popular buildings, streets, an empty church – and reflects on the weight of losses and what has marked its growth.
Fred Again.. – “USB002”
With “USB002”, arriving on December 12th, the DJ and producer Fred Again.. opens a new chapter of the USB project, expanding it with an impressive initiative: ten concerts in ten cities over ten weeks, designed as a natural extension of the album. The album will include ten new songs and represents the second chapter of the series inaugurated in the spring of 2024. This time too Fred continues to move between emotional electronics, hypnotic moments and sudden club accelerations. A work that promises to be unpredictable and totally free, in its most authentic style.
Nas & DJ Premier – “Light-Years”
The path that leads to “Light-Years” began almost twenty years ago: Nas and DJ Premier spoke for the first time about a joint album in 2006, returning to the idea in 2011. Only in the spring of 2024 did “Define My Name” arrive, a sign that the collaboration was really taking shape. Now, after another year and a half of waiting, the two pillars of American rap are ready to deliver a project that condenses two decades of ideas, drafts and intuitions developed over time. “Light Years” also represents the closure of the “Legend Has It…” series, the Mass Appeal series which in 2025 published seven heavyweight titles signed – among others – by Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Mobb Deep, De La Soul, Big L and Slick Rick. A record that comes with an important legacy and very high expectations.
