The Lambrini Girls are the new heroines of punk

“Hang the pigs that hunt your daughters”thus “Bad apple” starts. They recently released their long-awaited debut album “Who Let The Dogs Out” via the City Slang label and, from what they communicated, the impact in stores and on e-commerce sites was greater than their expectations. Even on the platforms they are growing like a wave: starting from the underground, on Spotify they have exceeded 300 thousand monthly listeners, but their strong point has always been live shows. Their UK headline tour in April is almost sold out and they have just announced their return to US stages. On Saturday 1st March they will stop in Italy, at the Bronson in Ravenna. The Lambrini Girls, for many, thanks to their cheekiness, funny songs, but also with social implications, are the new heroines of punk. The Brighton duo formed by Phoebe Lunny (voice/guitar) e Lilly Macieira (bass) has more and more of the spotlight on him.

“Who Let The Dogs Out” bottles “everything that is wrong with the modern world and shakes it up”the two say. If seasoning political songs with ruthless humor is their goal, this first album certainly hits the mark. Their songs target machismo (the launch single “Big Dick Energy” caused a stir), we talk about freedom, queer themes, emancipation and the desire to party. But there are also harsh, poisonous phrases. They are foul-mouthed bad girls, apparently bad, but in reality, as can be seen from various interviews, far from out of focus and deliberately provocative: “I think most young women have been conditioned their whole lives to have an idea of what is healthy and beautiful, but with a completely distorted view – the two artists told Kerrang! – it’s very difficult to know when you’re actually struggling, when you’re making a breakthrough. If you can hear someone singing about it, even if it’s quite direct, it might help you feel a little less alone. Maybe the record will encourage people to feel better or talk a little more about what’s wrong.”

Since they published debut EP “You’re welcome” in 2023the Lambrini Girls have won many accolades along the way, including a long list of nominations, international media covers and around twenty appearances at festivals from Glastonbury to Iceland Airwaves. Establishing a reputation as one of the best live bands to come out of the UK, with many parallels to the likes of Idlestheir combination of blunt, ferocious, critical punk and biting fun has drawn comparisons to audiences Bikini Kill, Gilla Band, Shame, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Iggy Pop and others. Only time will tell whether Lambrini Girls are yet another punk band spit out of the UK, or have and will have the ability to make their mark. For now let’s enjoy them, they are fun, biting and put a finger on the problemmaking you smile and even think.
