The Garbage returns with new music: in May the eighth album
Last year the Garbage let them know they were to work on a projectideal successor of “No Gods no Masters” of 2021 (here our review). Now Shirley Manson, Duke Erikson, Steve Marker and Butch Vig are Ready to publish their new and eighth studio albumof which they revealed today – February 27 – The details.
The title of the album is “Let All That We Imagine Be The Light” and the release date is set for the next May 30th. Consisting of ten songs, the album was recorded at the Red Razor Sounds of Los Angeles, California, but some sessions were also held in the drummer and producer study Butch vigand in the frontwoman bedroom Shirley Manson. According to what was promised in a press release, “Let All That We Imagine Be The Light” is described as a “hopeful” and “constructive” work, which will soon be anticipated by a single coming “in the coming weeks”.
The album, confirmed on social networks already last week, was produced by the Garbage themselves together with their historic sound engineer Billy Bush. The details were shared by Manson in a long press note in which it is told:
“Our latest album was extremely direct. Born from frustration and anger, it had a destructive quality, as if it had been written with the burnt land behind it. With this new album, however, I felt the need to look for a different, more constructive energy. I imagined that I emerged from the subsoil with lights on, while we moved towards the future. In search of life, love, of all the beautiful things in the world, which at the moment seem so rare. This was my basic idea during the creation of the disc: when everything seems dark, it is better to look for light, what is loving and positive. As a young man I tended to destroy, now that I am bigger I think it is essential to build and create. I still have a romantic idea of the community, of society, of the world. I don’t want to cross life by creating chaos and destruction. I want to do good. I don’t want to hurt. “
He added: “When we started working on this album, I was determined to find a brighter and more positive world in which to immerse myself. The title of the album, ‘Let All That We Imagine Be The Light’, perfectly describes the project as a whole. When everything is dark, it is essential to look for positive and beautiful forces in the world. It almost seems like a question of life or death. A survival strategy “.
The opening of the album is entrusted to the song “There’s no future in optimism”, which Shirley Manson He presented: “I wanted ‘There’s no future in optimism’ opened the album. He begins with a battle call, a declaration of intent. It is an appeal to all the people who think like us: If you want to face this world with love, if you are willing to invest in tenderness instead of violence and hatred, then we are with you. You should join us. “And again:” I have to believe that music and art can still influence culture. I know they continue to have an impact on me: that mysterious power that no government can control or buy. Great music exists in a microcosm of its own, without interference or corrupt influences. Although all in our society seems to suggest the opposite, I still believe that music has the power to change things, to move atoms, thoughts and positions“.
He echoed her Butch vigwho commented:
“We used many analog synthesizers and techniques of sound design for the disc, because they seemed perfect for the dystopian vibrations we were experiencing. We started with a white canvas, but, considering what is happening in the United States and in the world, it was inevitable that madness would infiltrate the songs.
However, we absolutely wanted the record to transmit hope, light, and the feeling that power is in the hands of people. “
The album is described in the press release as a job “unmistakably Garbage“, With”All the characteristics and distinctive features for which they are known“. There is talk of “Large guitars, precise and pressing rhythms and cinematographic sound landscapes“Which intertwine with”The unmistakable voice of Shirley Manson and his texts imbued with aptitude“.
