The blues brothers return to the form of graphic novels.
The family of Dan Aykroyd and the property of the deceased wife Judy Belushi-Pisano they announced “The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake“, The first official graphic novel of the Blues brothers. The book is the first step of a larger project that wants to bring the world of blues brothers to new television shows, films, live events and music.
The book was written by Stella Aykroyd (Dan’s daughter), Luke Pisano and James Werner, with the illustrations of the Brazilian artist Felipe Sobreiro. It is described as a “love letter and a sequel to the original film by the Blues Brothers”. The book will be published by Z2, the graphic novel publisher known for musical collaborations.
Dan Aykroyd, who created the Blues Brothers together with the late John Belushi, has editorial supervision and will write a preface.
“Elwood and Jake are precious for me. In fact, one of them is my father,” said Stella Aykroyd in Deadline. “I helped him to pining ‘Elwood’ on the knuckles before the blues brothers shows with ‘Brother Zee’, I walked behind him while making his way around a sea of fans dressed as Elwood and Jake all over the world and I was his co -pilot on the road, where he explained the correct way to buffer a car”.
The novel will also honor Judy Belushi-Pisano, who disappeared in July 2024. He was decisive in preserving and expanding the legacy of the Blues Brothers for more than 40 years. Luke Pisano and the creative team have declared that the project is based on Judy, John and Dan’s real experiences and stories.
Josh Bernstein, president of Z2, has defined the blues brothers “comedy, pop culture and musical royalty”, adding that fans can expect “the epic return of Jake and Elwood Blues”.
The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake will be available for pre-order on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and in independent bookstores, comics and record shops.
