SZA and Kendrick Lamar increasingly united: here is “30 for 30”
Together, one more time. “SOS Deluxe: Lana” is out, the extended version of SZA’s acclaimed album “SOS”, with which the American star won in 2024 the Grammy Award in the category “Best Progressive R&B Album”. The new expansion also contains the new single “Drive”, written by SZA and produced by ThankGod4Cody and Billy Lemon, of which the official video featuring Ben Stiller, directed by Bradley Calder, is online. The news isn’t over. The deluxe sees SZA herself writing the lyrics and producing Michael Uzowuru, ThankGod4Cody, Carter Lang, Rob Bisel, Solomonophonic & Monsune, Dylan Newstarter, among others. The album also includes “Saturn”a song currently nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance categories, e “30 for 30” with Kendrick Lamarone of the most anticipated pieces, “Kitchen”, “Scorsese Baby Daddy” and many others. Kendrick Lamar and SZA are a duo in almost every way. SZA participated in the rapper’s new album, “GNX”, on the songs “Luther” and “Gloria”.
It’s not over: just a few days after the release of “GNX”surprisingly released by the Compton rapper, the two also announced a joint tour that will see them perform in stadiums across North America next year. They called it the “Grand National Tour”. A preview of the tour could arrive – or rather, it will certainly arrive – on February 9th at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana (a significant detail: it is the home of jazz, the first African-American genre to conquer America), when Lamar will perform during the Super Bowl halftime showthe halftime of the final of the US professional football league championship, one of the most anticipated, followed and commented media events in the USA (This year the event was watched by 123.7 million Americans). Lamar returned the favor on “GNX” and featured on SZA’s album, leaving bars on the new “30 for 30.” The artist, as many have noted, in the new track he seems to attack someone SZA is very close with and all signs point to Drake being the target. “You’re fucking with n—s who think they’re prettier than you,” Lamar spits venom. “Say you have your period but he has his period too,” he continues meanly. Drake had a romantic relationship with SZA.
The two also worked together on two major singles in 2023, “Slime You Out” and “Rich Baby Daddy.” The one between Lamar and SZA is the latest in a long series of collaborations that you can retrace by reading here. With “SOS Deluxe: LANA”, SZA begins a new era, scoring the culmination of another year full of national and international successes. In 2024 alone, he received the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award and has won numerous awards, including iHeartRadio Awards, BMI Awards, Billboard Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards, BRIT Awards and BET Awards. Earlier this year, his album “SOS” garnered 9 nominations and won 3 Grammy Awards: Best Progressive R&B Album, Best R&B Song for “Snooze,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Ghost In The Machine.”
