Sting: an unreleased performance with tightrope walker Philippe Petit
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the feat that in 1974 saw him, then twenty-five years old, launch himself into an illegal crossing between the majestic Twin Towers in New York, suspended at over 400 meters in the air and walking on a thin steel cable, the tightrope walker Philippe Petit decided to recreate his “walk” by crossing a nave of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan. The event, called “Towering”, was enriched by a performance by Sting who, while the 74-year-old French artist enchanted those present by walking on a thin cable suspended six meters in the air, performed his songs “Fragile” and “Field of gold” accompanied by a live orchestra.
According to “Showbiz 411”, the former Police member closed the evening by performing a live performance of an unreleased song entitled “Let the great world spin”, taken from a new musical about Philippe Petit.
Sting’s latest studio album is 2021’s “The Bridge”, released five years after his previous album of unreleased material “44/876” and two years after 2019’s collection “My Songs” featuring new versions of his songs.
