Spice Girls, 'private' reunion for Victoria's birthday
Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton met last Wednesday, April 17, in an exclusive club in Mayfair – one of the most central and elegant areas of London – to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of their bandmate Victoria Beckham : in the presence of over one hundred guests – including Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Eva Longoria – the rediscovered Spice Girls performed a choreography to the tune of “Stop”, the second extract from the group's second album, “Spiceworld” from 1997.
Witness to the improvised show for the benefit of the guests was the birthday girl's husband, the former captain of the British national football team David Beckham.
The Spice Girls held ten concerts between the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2019, without Victoria in the lineup, returning to the stage after 11 years of absence: rumors of a new reunion spread in 2020, shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic dashed any hope of seeing the band back in action on stage any time soon. In 2021 there was talk of a reunion in 2023 – with Beckham also in the line-up – which however did not materialise. Lately there has been talk of a return to live performances for the next edition of the Glastonbury festival: although the event is just two months away, at the moment Brown has not yet officially denied the possibility of seeing the band back in action in Pilton.
