Sparks in Italy in July: the history of the band in 28 songs (1)
There are artists and bands that are usually defined, for convenience, “of worship”; In the sense that perhaps they have never achieved international celebrity, and which nevertheless enjoy a faithful following of enthusiasts as well as a significant estimate of criticism. Each of us, I think, has its own “worship” artist; A name that is not often found in Spotify’s playlists, and that, consequently, can hardly reach the ears of those who do not already know him.
Personally, I follow Constance and Determination, since 1972, the Sparks, or the brothers Ron and Russell Mael, two Americans whose record activity, almost constant over time, has reached the beautiful figure of 28 unreleased albums published in 51 years (they will be 29 with “Mad!”, Which will come out soon and
It was anticipated by the single “Do it My Own Way”).
On July 8, the Sparks will be in concert in Italy for the first time, at the Arcimboldi Theater in Milan; The presales open to all begin tomorrow, and we fans of the first hour are already counting the days that are missing from the show.
Below I propose a kind of “summary” of the sparks career; This is the first part, the second is here. If you want to listen to 14 examples of Sparks’ production – one for each album released from 1972 to 1986 – it may be (and I wish me) that arouse, if not your interest, at least your curiosity.
