Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith release “Correspondences Vol 1”

Soundwalk Collective And Patti Smith announce the release of May 3rd “Correspondences Vol 1”a new two-track EP – “Pasolini” and “Medea” – on Bella Union. To accompany the announcement they present “Pasolini”.

'Correspondences' is an evolving project between Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith. Spanning over 10 years, the project traverses an infinite number of geographies and natural environments, where the artists have discovered sonic imprints left by poets, filmmakers, revolutionaries and the impact of climate change. Stephan Crasneanscki, founder of the Soundwalk Collective, has explored, captured and collected the most remote places in the world to awaken a sonic memory in the landscape, discovering traces of past and current stories of the world we live in. The resulting compositions are made of sounds that reflect our relationship with this world, the environment, the soul and the creative process of the artist.

Initially composed as travel photos and soundtracks for an unseen film, Stephan brought these recordings to Patti Smith, offering her new landscapes to channel her poetic vision. This ongoing resonance between the artists – which began during a chance meeting on a plane – was shaped by their correspondences: ongoing conversations with the intention of reflecting on life and nature.

For 'Correspondences', their collaboration focuses on eight unique pieces that reverse the relationship of sound to image. The sound came first and only later were images found to tell the story of the music, visually edited onto each soundtrack. From a collaboration with the TBA21-Academy that explores the destructive impact of seismic air guns and human interventions on the oceans, to Nature's resilience after the Chernobyl disaster, to the decentralized societies imagined by Peter Kropotkin, to the uncultivated lands of Pasolini's last night: the pieces presented become audiovisual journeys that stimulate reflection.
