Soundgarden reunion video

The official videos of the evening that celebrated the class of 2025 are being released Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: among the protagonists of the ceremony, the Soundgarden, who reunited in a new lineup. Along with guitarist Kim Thayl and drummer Matt Cameron – the two members who were part of the band’s entire history along with Chris Cornell, who passed away in 2017 – there were the two bassists Hiro Yamamoto in the lineup until before “Badmotorfinger”, and Ben Shepherd, who played the instrument for the rest of the band’s history. And there were many guests: on vocals Brandi Carlile, Taylor Momsen (Pretty Reckless), and Jerry Cantrell (Alice in Chains), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), and Nancy Wilson of Heart. Here is the video of the band’s “signature song”, “Black hole sun”, sung by Carlile with Momsne on backing vocals and Cantrell on guitar

The performance of “Black hole sun” – far from flawless, it must be said, with Brandi Carlile who seemed a bit in difficulty – was preceded by another much more notable performance, that of “Rusty Cage”, the key piece of “Badmotorfinger”, with Taylor Momsen on vocals and Mike McCready on guitar. Here is an unofficial video, hoping that the official one will be shared soon

Finally the last tribute: “Fell on black days”, one of Chris Cornell’s favorite songs, sung by his daughter Tony, with Nancy Wilson of Heart on guitar. Toni is the daughter from the singer’s second marriage, to Vicky Karayiannis – with whom the band members have long been in conflict over the management of the Soundgarden brand and Cornell’s latest recordings – which should eventually become a group album soon. During the ceremony, Lillian also took to the stage, the first daughter he had with Susan Silver – who was the group’s historical manager, as well as one of the central figures of the Seattle scene (she was present in the room and was rightly thanked)

“We wanted it to be as Seattle-centric as possible and include some of the people who were there with us in the beginning,” Matt Cameron said before the ceremony of the choice of vocalist Brandi Carlile, also a native of the city, while Thayil – who will release an autobiography next year – added: “Having colleagues, friends and creative collaborators from here who share that with us is very important. It’s very important because it’s part of our identity. We’re not just ‘rock kids’ in this band, Soundgarden. We are rock guys in this band, Soundgarden, who helped create the Seattle scene and sound. Geography is very important to our identity. It’s where we are from. It’s who we are.”

In addition to Soundgarden, this year’s inductees into the Hall of Fame in the main performer category include Bad Company, Joe Cocker, Chubby Checker, White Stripes And Cyndi Lauper.
