Soundgarden: posthumous album with Chris Cornell almost finished

Soundgarden have almost finished work on the posthumous album with Chris Cornell. In 2017, when the group’s frontman took his own life, the band was recording a new album. Work was suspended due to the tragedy. Last May the group revealed that they had taken back the songs they were working on together with Cornell, after resolving a legal dispute with Vicky Cornell, the singer’s widow, relating to the publication of the recordings made before the leader’s death.

Now in an interview with YouTuber Allison Hagendorf, Soundgarden are sharing updates on the progress of the work with fans. The group recalled producer Terry Date, already alongside Cornell and his companions for “Louder than love” and “Badmotorfinger”, and revealed that the album of unreleased songs will be inspired by the sound of Soundgarden’s early days.

“There’s something familiar about some of this music. There were a couple of songs that seemed to suggest it was the start of a new chapter. It’s going to be bittersweet,” said drummer Matt Cameron. And again: “I’m excited for fans to hear this music. It was fun for us to work on.”
