Soft Cell: one last album, then retirement

One last album, then retirement. Thus ends the story of Soft Cell, the duo behind “Tainted Love”, which sold millions of copies worldwide in 1981. After the death last year of multi-instrumentalist Dave Ball, singer Marc Almond has announced that the album that puts an end to the story of Soft Cell will be released on September 25th: it will be titled “Danceteria”. The single of the same name has already anticipated it:

In a statement, Almond wrote:

Danceteria is a love letter to New York in the early 80s. Our time in New York, where we recorded our first three albums, shaped us both as artists and people. Celebrating this period is a fitting farewell to Dave Ball and Soft Cell’s latest studio album.

Speaking about the choice to end the group’s history, the singer made it known:

There can’t be any more Soft Cell recordings without Dave, it would be impossible. The sad reality is that Dave Ball was half of Soft Cell and, regardless of live performances, I can’t write Soft Cell songs without him.
