Snoop Dogg on Meeting Paul McCartney: ‘I Would Collaborate Right Away’
Fresh off his performance with Dr. Dre at the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony, where he was an off-camera guest, Snoop Dogg was recently interviewed by US magazine Complex and spoke about his first meeting with Paul McCartney earlier this year.
During the chat, which also included his colleague and friend Andre Romelle Young, the real name of the legendary rapper and producer better known as Dr. Dre, the Doggfather said: “I did a little concert for someone in Hollywood. And Paul McCartney was there. I had never met him before, but I’m a big Beatles fan. I know Jimmy Iovine knows him, I know Dr. Dre knows him. I was backstage smoking and they said, ‘Sir Paul would like to meet you.’ And I was like, ‘Really?'”
Recalling the incident, Snoop Dogg later revealed that he was surprised to find out that McCartney was also a cannabis connoisseur, explaining that when they met, he told him not to put out the joint he was smoking. The “Drop It Like It’s Hot” rapper then continued his story:
“I put my joint out, he walks into the room and says, ‘Don’t put it out.’ He gives me a hug and we say goodbye. And then I was like, ‘Oh my God, Paul McCartney knows who the fuck Snoop Dogg is! This is Paul McCartney, he knows who I am.’ I love it when people you respect, respect you.”
Asked if he would ever collaborate with McCartney, Snoop Dogg said without hesitation: “Absolutely, fucking yes. I would collaborate with him in a heartbeat, without a second thought. What could we do? Something like ‘Ebony & Ivory’ (Paul McCartney featuring Stevie Wonder) or ‘The Girl Is Mine’ (Michael Jackson featuring McCartney).”
As noted by the US edition of Billboard, last April a photo began circulating online showing Snoop Dogg with Paul McCartney at the event “Keep the party going: A tribute to Jimmy Buffett”, which seems to be the very occasion the rapper refers to when describing his meeting with the former Beatle.
