Smashing Pumpkins: The 35th Anniversary of "Gish" with Two Editions

Smashing Pumpkins: after over 30 years still with Butch Vig

Speaking of great reunions. The Smashing Pumpkins have announced that they have returned to work, after over thirty years, with Butch Vig for a new song that is almost completed.

The 70-year-old drummer of Garbage he is known for having produced some fundamental albums of the nineties, above all “Nevermind” (read the review here) of the Nirvanabut also “Dirty”, “Experimental Jet Set” And “Trash and No Star” of the Sonic Youthas well as the first two albums by Smashing Pumpkins, “Gish” And “Siamese Dream”.

The frontman of the American band Billy Corgan broke the news during a live stream on Substack revealing that the song is “98% complete.” These are Corgan’s somewhat cryptic words: “We just recorded a song. It has a very specific purpose, which I can’t reveal… Honestly, I haven’t chosen a title yet. The plan is to release the song this year. I can’t say exactly when. There are reasons… The song is really fantastic. The recording is practically finished. I’d say there’s only a couple of little things missing. I’d say it’s 98% complete.”

Corgan was keen to point out that the song is unlikely to be performed during the band’s celebratory tour Smashing Pumpkins for the album’s thirtieth anniversary “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” (read the review here) which, after the United States, will debut in Europe starting from September where, at the moment, unfortunately, no Italian stage is planned.
