Slash on the Birth of His Love for AC/DC

slash He listed the AC/DC albums that are among his favourites in the Australian/American band’s career.

Guns N’ Roses guitarist, who recently covered “Killing Floor” (a blues classic) with Brian Johnson of the AC/DC And Steven Tyler for his album “ORrgy of the Damned”, he talked about his love for AC/DC in a radio interview with 95.5 KLOS host Matt Pinfield.

It was during this chat that he defined the two key AC/DC albums in his appreciation of the band and why they remain his favourites.

“”Powerage“It’s probably still one of my favorite AC/DC records,” the guitarist said. “But at the time I got into them, it came out “Highway to Hell”. That’s how I met them.” It was 1979, then.

But he then added: “Thanks to that album (“Highway to Hell“), I found out “Powerage” (from 1978) and I thought, “Wow!!!” That record was the one that got me into the whole AC/DC catalog. And then Bon Scott died (1980). And that was… it was like, “I’ve just gotten into these guys and now…” But, before long, Brian Johnson came along.”

Speaking about “Powerage”, Slash recalled that “”Down Payment Blues” was the song that stuck with me the most. It’s still one of my favorite rock’n’roll songs of all time.”

During the interview, the guitarist also talked about how, in his opinion, 1980 was a crucial year for music, explaining: “One of the greatest years for metal in the 80s was 1980, with the release of “Back In Black” (AC/DC), “Heaven And Hell” by Black Sabbath. It was a special, huge year for rock.”
