Shari: “I locked myself in the house and wrote for a year”

“Amore & blues” is Shari’s first albumwhich the public may remember for its participation in Sanremo Giovani 2022 and then at the Festival of Sanremo 2023 in which he dueted with Salmo in a medley of Zucchero songs. “Sanremo, in one week, made me grow by three years. It gave me a wake up call. Maybe I wasn’t completely ready when I did it, but it helped me and I will always be grateful for that kind of experience. Today I am a different person and artist, this album in some way is a real calling card”, says Shari.

The love and melancholy of the blues, a form of sadness that does not paralyze, but that nourishes, are the red threads of the album, which arrives after a long period of silence. “It photographs a process of finding myself. I felt a little lost. I wrote without thinking too much. Instead I needed to understand what I wanted to tell, how and why. I locked myself in the house for a year. Zero social life. I cooked and wrote (smiles, ed.). Finding my way was really a necessity – he says – I remember going to the producers with nothing in hand and what was born was the fruit of many minds. I didn’t like it. And so I changed my way of working: I started writing at home and producing my own music. Then, only at that point, did I go to the studio and begin the final processing. But I already had something 100% mine to start from. It’s a singer-songwriter approach”.

Inspired by the work of great artists of the past, not so much for style and sound but for the desire to capture love in its depth, madness, but also electricity and energy, Shari, born in 2002, creates an album in which stamp and writing are at the center. “I have always loved warm, blues voices – recalls Shari – more than from a sound point of view, which apart from the piece ‘Ash and smoke’ there is little, the reference to the blues is in the lyricsin the idea of exorcising what is wrong with singing, with music. The songs are born after something happens to me and it gets stuck inside me. To get it out, then I write. I experience emotions to the fullest. I have always been a hater of those who don’t feel them, of those who are cold. Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Karen Dalton are giant names that inspired methey are my muses, they are great artists and great women who also symbolize independence. I have always dreamed of being an independent woman, every time I saw a shooting star I dreamed of exactly this.”

The traveling companions of this work are Anice, Dani Faiv and Epoque. The soul of the artist’s voice is accompanied by eclectic productions, to which Shari has given her contribution for the first time to then be treated in detail by names such as Salmo and Stabber, but also by Machweo, Riva Undici and Verano. “The pieces matched the artists I chose, but I discovered this by making them – he reveals – Anice is perfect on the piece ‘I’m looking for you in the blue’Epoque gave rhythm to ‘Margherita pizza’Dani Faiv with his voice and the rapping part has thickened ‘Where 6?’. This is one of the most sincere albums I will definitely write. I have accepted myself as a person this year, and it shows. Salmo, who has always focused heavily on his identity, was and is a great master. It helped me a lot to believe in myself and find my balance. I will thank him forever.”
