Sanremo 2024, Amadeus: “We need to close a cycle”

The inaugural evening of the festival, tonight, February 6, will be opened by the Carabinieri Fanfare and includes a tribute from the orchestra to Toto Cutugno (for details see here https://www.rockol.it/news-742200/festival-sanremo -programma-completo-ospiti-giurie-voto-cocondotti; here is the order of release of the singers https://www.rockol.it/news-742200/festival-sanremo-programma-completo-ospiti-giurie-voto- co-hosts).

Below are some answers to journalists’ questions.

Marco Mengoni, tonight’s co-host:

“It’s as if I had always lived this past year here in Sanremo. I feel lucky and envied for tonight’s opportunity, and I thank Amadeus who chose me and left me the freedom to express myself by accepting my and my team’s proposals. Tonight, in addition to ‘Due vite’, I will sing a few songs from my repertoire, and maybe even talk a little.”

Amadeus:

“This will be my last Sanremo. We need to close a cycle, think about new things and other things. I want to have time.”

Marco Mengoni:

“Me as a host? I can’t imagine it. I’ll see you again after tonight and understand if it’s a possibility to take into consideration.”

Amadeus:

“There are guests I wasn’t able to have, of course. But my greatest satisfaction is having brought singers into the competition who didn’t need it in themselves. What will my successors do? They will host festivals tailored to their needs, like a coach does with a football team.”

Marco Mengoni:

“The songs that struck me? I haven’t listened to them all, I heard some yesterday at rehearsals. Maybe I could say tomorrow which ones were my favorites.”
