Rolling Stones at work on a new album, then the tour

Ron Wood’s new collection is called “Paint It Black”

Ronnie Wood celebrated 50 years as a member of the Rolling Stones revealing four new portraits of him and his bandmates. The four paintings are part of his new collection called “Paint It Black” and will be available in a series of limited edition signed prints that you can see here.

The paintings are on a black background and portray Mick Jagger, Keith Richardsthe late drummer Charlie Watts and Wood himself. As the name suggests, their completion coincides with the reprint of “Black and Blue” (read the review here), the 1976 album that saw Ronnie become a permanent member of the group.

Reflecting on this milestone and the new art collection, the English musician said: β€œIt’s hard to believe that it’s been 50 years since I joined the Rolling Stones. In these portraits, I wanted to capture the spirit of Mick, Keith, mine and our late friend Charlie Watts, and the concerts we were lucky enough to play together. I’m proud of the path we’ve taken and it felt right to share these prints with the world. Art has defined my life and I’ve been painting for much longer than I knew sounds.”

Although he is known for his musical talent, Ron Wood he was keen to underline that “he has been painting and drawing for seven decades, which is much longer than it sounds”, and that he has even won an award at the BBC Sketch Club – a television program for children which aired from 1958 to 1962 – for a drawing he made when he was just a child. “I paint while listening to music and, sometimes, while I play, in my head I do it with a painting. Art fills my life, art is my life and art will continue to be my life.”
