Ravenna Festival, Calexico arrive in July

Next July 5th at Palazzo San Giacomo in Russi (Ra) as part of the Ravenna Festival they will be on stage Calexico. American band led by Joey Burns and John Convertino. Before the Calexico they will perform Don Antoniothat is to say Anthony Gramentierion stage with the Croatian guitarist Dalibor Pavičić former Bambi Molesters.

The latest album by Calexico, “El Mirador” (read the review here), was released in 2022. A bright and very danceable record, a joyful musical melting pot with a conscience. As pointed out by Joey Burns: “The pandemic has made it more evident how much we need each other and music is my way of building bridges and encouraging inclusion and positivity. Sadness and melancholy are not excluded, but music is the spark that triggers change and movement.”

Don Antonio, Dalibor Pavičić and a handful of musicians (Luka Benčić, Enrico Mao Bocchini, Gianni Perinelli, Danilo Gallo) paint geographies of foreign and alienating places, fishing out and repositioning songs from both repertoires – as well as various new episodes – in a median meeting point in the middle of the Adriatic, an invisible and untouched island governed only by the dialogue of the guitars and the magnetism of a unprecedented ensemble that doesn't know what to do with purism.
