Radiohead, new tour tickets: “Check your mail”
Radiohead are trying to make it up to their fans, after the controversy of recent weeks linked to the methods of selling tickets for the tour in European sports halls scheduled for next autumn, which will also take place in Italy on 14, 15, 17 and 18 November at the UnipolArena in Casalecchio di Reno, in Bologna. They do this by announcing new availability of tickets for the shows. And the Italian fans hope too.
After selling all the tickets, the band announced that they would reopen the resale in September. But, once again, the tickets sold out quickly. Now Thom Yorke and company have posted an Instagram story to update fans with more information about the tickets: We are sending out more unlock codes for tickets for upcoming concerts in Europe 2025. If you have registered for tickets, please check your inbox, junk mail and spam,” it reads.
Sales for Radiohead’s tour concerts started last September 12th, when fans who had registered on the band’s website in recent days and received the code to participate in the sale were finally able to connect to the site to purchase tickets. “Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis; receiving the unlock code does not guarantee ticket purchase,” Yorke and co. said. The unlock code was valid for one of the cities that fans had marked as their favorite during registration. But be careful: “Unfortunately, receiving an unlock code does not guarantee the purchase of the ticket. The unique code you will receive will only allow you to access the official ticketing platform”, Radiohead had warned. And it was immediately understood that there would be a rush for tickets anyway, despite the band’s efforts to make life difficult for “bots and online touts”.
In reality, it was already clear that something wasn’t working properly on the eve of the opening of sales, when many fans reported on social media that they had never received the text message confirming the registration.
Error messages, a broken website and so on have made the purchasing experience for fans a nightmare. Anger has exploded on social media towards Radiohead, accused of having obtained, with this cumbersome procedure, the opposite effect to the desired one, disappointing the fans and still ending up seeing the tickets end up on sale at prices which to say are increased is an understatement on secondary ticketing sites.
