Prince, a musical film in the works

Universal Pictures has started production on a musical film about Prince: the project, leaked to American press sources, involves the former director of “Black Panther” Ryan Coogler and the screenwriter Bryan Edward Hill, currently working with our compatriot Stefano Caselli on writing “Ultimate Black Panther”, the sequel of the feature film centered on the character of Marvel's Black Panther presented in 2018.

At the moment details relating to the cast, production times, title and hypothetical release date have not been revealed.
At the beginning of last January the Hollywood Reporter reported the news of an upcoming theatrical adaptation of “Purple Rain”a 1984 film whose protagonist was the singer, performer and composer from Minneapolis who passed away in 2016: the direction of the musical, based on the original screenplay of the film written by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn, will be handled by Lileana Blain-Cruz, who recently directed “Skin of Our Teeth” on Broadway.
