Piero Pelù receives the 24th Amnesty International Italy Award

AND “SOS”the song written and performed by Piero Pelùto win the 24th edition of Amnesty International Italy Award (Big section). The award, awarded in collaboration with the Voci per la Libertà association, rewards each year the best song dedicated to human rights published by a leading name in Italian music. The objective of the initiative has always been to shine a spotlight on crucial social issues by exploiting the universal language of music.

“SOS” was written, recorded and distributed free of charge in the space of a few hours in October 2025, to give voice to the tragic reality of the occupied Palestinian territories and the suffering of civilians in Gaza Strip. It was therefore born as a peremptory invitation not to remain indifferent and to openly take sides in defense of peace and justice.

Riccardo Noury, spokesperson for Amnesty International Italy, explained the motivations of the award underlining the impact and relevance of the song:

SOS urges us to talk about the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip in the present times, because Palestinian girls and boys, those still alive, continue to eat bread and violence, more the latter than the former. From this song, poetic and powerful, raw and evocative at the same time, the need for the future arises, for that right to happiness which is and will be the only condition thanks to which you can keep hate out.

This, however, is Pelù’s comment:

I wrote SOS last October, a song that came from my heart and which talks about the genocides taking place in every part of the world (and in particular the Palestinian one) and the fundamental role of NGO rescuers in places of war (in particular Doctors Without Borders and the Global Sumud Flotilla for their role in generating media attention on Gaza). I decided to make it downloadable for free on my site because I didn’t want to use platforms involved in weapons and propaganda of dictators.
