Peter Gabriel announces new album “o/i”

Peter Gabriel announced a new album, “either/or”and tomorrow there will be a first taste of the titled album “Been Undone” (which you can listen to here). This new release follows the album “I” (read the review here) released in 2023. This time too, a new song will be released every full moon, with the full album released later this year.

According to the press release, each song of “either/or” will be accompanied by “several interpretations in the form of Dark-Side and Bright-Side mixes”. The first single “Been Undone” it’s a mix Dark Side by Chad Blake. Each track on the new album, as reported by the NME, will be accompanied by a work of art and “Been Undone” is accompanied by ‘Cycloplot 156 (Palindrome)’ by the artist from Sao Paulo Janaina Mello Landini.

Peter Gabriel commented: “The first work is a special work by Janaina Mello Landini. The way she takes the rope and moves it, unwinding it, it’s almost reminiscent of fractals or tree trunks and in some ways it’s also reminiscent of the brain, so I see a lot of starting points. I’m happy that Janaina is willing to participate and be part of the process. We’re using one of her existing images for this month to open up the whole process, but I’m excited that she will now create a work, specifically for the song. That always makes me a little more excited to see what comes of it. Check out his work.”

The song was written and produced by Peter Gabriel and registered with i Real World Studios of Bath and The Beehive in London. Of the album the English musician said: “I’m happy to announce that tonight, with the full moon, we will begin another year of full moon releases called ‘oi’. The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings. I’ve been thinking about the future and how we might react. We are sliding into an unprecedented period of transition, most likely triggered by three waves: artificial intelligence, quantum computing and brain-computer interface. Artists have the role of looking into the fog and, when they glimpse something, to hold one mirror.”

Gabriel then went on to say that “these are my lumpy bits: i/o: the inside has a new way out and oi: the outside has a new way in. We are not, and have never been, exclusively self-determined, independent beings who have been given control of the world. We are something different, part of nature, part of everything, and feeling a connection, shaking your butt and giving and receiving love can help us find our place and make us smile. Some of these songs will make part of the brain project I’ve been exploring for several years, and some of them just make me happy. I hope you like them.”
