Perry Farrell's Wife's Version of the Fight with Navarro

Perry Farrell’s Wife’s Version of the Fight with Navarro

As videos of Jane’s Addiction’s concert last night, September 13, which became the scene of an argument between Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro, have begun to make the rounds on the web, the singer’s wife Etty Lau Farrell has shared her point of view on the incident on social media.

In a post on her Instagram, accompanied by a video of the moment in particular that brought the show at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion to a close after just ten songs, Farrell’s wife wrote:

Rather than speculate, I thought I’d post a first-hand account of what happened on stage at Jane’s Addiction’s show last night in Boston.

WHO: Perry Farrell & Dave Navarro

AS: It’s clear that there was a lot of tension and animosity between the members… the magic that made the band dynamic. Well, the fuse was lit. Perry approached Dave and pushed him.

WHY: Perry’s frustration built up night after night. He felt that the volume on stage was extremely high and that his voice was drowned out by the band. Perry suffers from tinnitus, and he had a sore throat every night. But when the audience in the front row started complaining to Perry, calling him names because the band was playing too loud and they couldn’t hear him, Perry lost his temper.

WHEN: The band started playing the song ‘Ocean’ before Perry was ready and counting to begin… The volume on stage was so high at that point that Perry couldn’t hear over the roar and vibration of the instruments, and by the end of the song he wasn’t singing anymore, he was just screaming to be heard.

WHO WON THE FIGHT:

Well, of course, bassist Eric Avery. While Dave held Perry at arm’s length to try to calm the situation, Dan rushed over to calm him down, holding Perry back. Dave stepped away to take off his guitar. Eric approached Perry, at the back of the stage, in the dark, behind Dan, grabbed him in a headlock, and punched him three times in the stomach. Kevin, a long-haired crew member, pulled Eric away. Eric then casually walked to the front of the stage to apologize to the crowd for ending the concert early.

WHAT WERE THE CONSEQUENCES?

Dave still looked charming and cool in the middle of a fight. Perry, on the other hand, was a crazed beast for the next half hour – eventually not calming down, but letting loose and crying. Eric, well, either didn’t understand what ‘calming down’ meant and took advantage of the moment, and gave Perry a few low blows.

Well, this is my first-person account of what happened. Watch the video for yourself.
