Perry Farrell's Porno For Pyros swan song
Shortly after finishing the farewell tour “Horns, Thorns en Halos” in North America, Porno for Pyros shared what was billed as “the last song ever” of their career.
The song marks the Perry Farrell's group's swan song and is titled “Fingernail” The song is one of three new tracks recorded by the band last year following “Agua” and “Little Me”. All three songs, written in the nineties but never recorded in that period, presents the original lineup composed by Farrell together with guitarist Peter DiStefano, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Martyn LeNoble. In the first months of the year Porno for Pyros were supposed to release an EP, as previously reported, but it never saw the light and there is no information about it.
“The moment the melody touched the words I knew it would be a special song“Perry Farrell of “Fingernail” told “Consequence”: “But I was too immature to fully understand the essence of it.” He added: “There is no pain in cutting our hair, eyelashes or a nail, because they are dead, even if the world is renewed at every moment. The death invested within us is expelled and the soul is healed again”.
For his part, LeNoble, who chose not to join the band on their farewell tour, commented: “In 'Fingernail,' I feel our lives and yours. Decades of growth. Happiness, heartbreak, tension, loss and joy… growing pains. In this case it took almost 30 years for this song to become what it is now. And the way the song ends…. I love redemption songs. I'd say we finished well“.
Porno for Pyros they reunited after more than a quarter of a century to play some shows in 2022, before embarking on their recent farewell tour, which featured bassist Mike Watt, who had already replaced LeNoble in 1995, before the band broke up in 1998.
