Vedder: “Taylor Swift fans remember punk rock audiences”

Pearl Jam: Eddie Vedder Invites Persistent Fan on Stage

Eddie Vedder of the Pearl Jam recently invited a persistent fan on stage to play “Yellow Ledbetter” during a concert in Spain.

“This guy asked me for a song for two days,” Eddie Vedder explained.

The fan was identified by Chilean media as Carlos Zamorano, who flew to the Old Continent to attend two recent concerts in Barcelona on Pearl Jam’s “Dark Matter” world tour.

He lined up at 4 a.m. on both nights, initially offering Vedder Chilean wine in exchange for permission to play. On the first night, he held up a sign that read, “Let me play Y.Ledbetter on guitar. P.S. I hope you enjoyed the Chilean wine.”

Vedder had noticed the sign but ignored the request, although at one point he took the sign and it was returned to the fan with a note that read, “Keep Playing.”

At the next show, Zamorana returned with another sign that read, “I swear I’m good at playing guitar,” and Vedder not only recognized him, but told the audience that he had a dream about a fan asking him to play with him — joking, “This guy’s been asking me for a song for two days.”

As Pearl Jam closed out their set and prepared to play “Yellow Ledbetter,” Vedder asked, “Can you actually play guitar?”

Zamorana was then escorted on stage and given a guitar by a technician and the band launched into their 1992 hit. In various videos shared by fans, the band can be seen impressed by his technical prowess while the audience applauds him.

Recalling the experience on Instagram, Zamorano wrote: “I don’t think there are words that can convey how much this moment means to me, and the joy it gives me to see these images. It was a dream come true and I enjoyed it to the fullest.”
