Paul McCartney responds to a fan's message after 60 years

Paul McCartney: Surprise Live With Beatles And Neil Young Songs

Producer Andrew Watt and Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith hosted an intimate show in the Hamptons, New York, on the evening of August 20. The venue of choice was the Stephen Talkhouse, a club that seats just 250. As if a Watt and Smith live show wasn’t enough, attendees were in for another big surprise when Paul McCartney took the stage.

Dressed in jeans and a zip-up hoodie, the 82-year-old British musician launched into a duet of Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” with Watt’s girlfriend Charlotte Lawrence before performing The Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There.” Former Hall & Oates guitarist George Edward Smith also joined McCartney on stage during the performance.

Andrew Watt, whose latest project is Lady Gaga’s duet with Bruno Mars “Die with a smile” (listen to Rockol here) and who in recent years has collaborated with – among others – Ozzy Osbourne, the Rolling Stones and Pearl Jam, has already worked in the past with Paul McCartney when he was a guest on the Stones’ latest album “Hackney diamonds”. Furthermore, as he himself revealed to the New York Times in December 2023, the producer and Macca wrote a song together that is still unreleased during what was supposed to be an informal meeting: “So, all of a sudden, we found ourselves with a song in our hands. From a cup of tea to a song, isn’t it a moment?!”.
