Paul McCartney plays ‘Now and then’ by the Beatles in concert
Paul McCartney did not betray the expectations of the fans and last night, October 1st, confirmed the assumptions that had circulated in the previous hours. From Montevideo in Uruguay, the 82-year-old British musician has resumed the “Got back” tour and during the concert he played live for the first time “Now and then“, the Beatles’ “last unreleased song”, released on November 2 last year.
To open the new series of concerts of the tour, which after South America will stop in the United Kingdom and Europe in the coming weeks, on the stage of the Centenario stadium in Montevideo, McCartney proposed a set list of 37 songs. As reported by setlist.fm, there was no shortage of them solo hits, Wings songs and Fab Four classics. After dedicating “Here today” to the late John LennonSir Paul then decided to give the public the live debut of “Now and then”. McCartney played the song sitting at the pianowhile images from the music video played on the screen behind him directed by Peter Jackson – former director of the documentary film on the Beatles “Get back”, focused on the making of the Liverpool quartet’s album “Let it be”.
Fans have started to speculate that the Beatles’ final song would be included in the setlist after they were shared online videos featuring Paul McCartney try the song last September 30th during the soundcheck at the Centenario stadium in Montevideo.
Furthermore, it had been published on the former Beatle’s official channels a behind-the-scenes video of the tour which included moments with frames of the video projected on the screens musical of “Now and then”, confirming the suspicions.
The song was released on November 2 last year in a single whose double A-side associates the last Beatles song with the firstor the band’s 1962 debut UK single, “Love me do”.
