Paul McCartney criticizes the UN: “COP30 must be vegetarian”

Paul McCartney has something to say ahead of the COP30the 30th Conference of the Parties of United Nations on climate change, which will be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The event brings together the signatory countries of the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to negotiate and define concrete actions to combat global warming and, according to the former Beatle, it is inconceivable that such an event does not promote the vegetarian diet: “Serving meat at a climate summit is like handing out cigarettes at a cancer prevention conference“.

Sir Paul has long been a activist for vegetarianism and animal rights. Paul and Linda McCartney are public advocates for the ethical and environmental benefits of vegetarianism, as demonstrated by the “Linda McCartney Foods” food line launched in 1991. McCartney has continued to collaborate closely with the PETAthe association for the ethical treatment of animals, after Linda’s death in 1998. PETA itself, a few days before COP30, published the Beatles legend’s appeal on social media.

“The animal agriculture industry is a major cause of deforestation and the climate catastrophe ravaging the planet,” McCartney said. “I urge you to set a good example and to make the conference entirely vegetarian.”
