Ozzy, stoned, thought he was at sea and was swimming in the sand

Chatting on the ‘Madhouse Chronicles’ podcast, Ozzy Osbourne he told how in the Seventies cocaine had become his only reason for living, leaving all his other thoughts at a safe distance, so much so that he used to take his trusted dealer on tour because he needed to take drugs every fifteen minutes.

This is what 75-year-old Ozzy said: “In Sabbath, when we discovered cocaine, for us it was like it was the meaning of life.

We had a pusher with us on tour. We had this guy, he was a little strange. He had these fucking bags with these big fucking batches of coke. big bags of coke.”

Due to his irreducible addiction, Osbourne had several problems with the authorities, including an accident in an airport bathroom. Ozzy remembers ducking into a closet in Houston, Texas, trying to turn a box of matches into a wooden spoon when a cop walked into the bathroom. “I bent over and saw these black boots leaning against the urinal. He was a fucking cop and I was standing on one leg with this fucking cocaine, waiting for the guy to finish pissing so he could shoot it.”

His bandmate, the bassist Geezer Butlerrecalled the time Ozzy was so stoned that he thought he was swimming in the open sea when he was actually still on the beach. In his autobiography “Into the Void – From Birth to BlackSabbath and Beyond”Geezer wrote: “A girl named Carol offered Ozzy and me something called psilocybin. Of course we accepted. I saw skeletons. Ozzy thought he was swimming in the sea, but he was floundering in the sand, like a stranded turtle.”
