Ornella Vanoni: the funeral home from tomorrow at the Piccolo in Milan

The Piccolo Teatro Grassi in Milan will host Ornella Vanoni’s funeral home. Fans, friends and colleagues of the Milanese singer, who died last night at the age of 91, will be able to pay homage to her starting from 10am tomorrow until 2pm. And then again on Monday morning.

The location chosen is not random. The Piccolo Teatro Grassi in Milan was the theater of the great Giorgio Strehler, who made Vanoni debut on the stage as an actress. Vanoni enrolled in Giorgio Strehler’s Academy of Dramatic Art at the Piccolo Teatro in 1953 and soon became his favorite student, as well as his partner: “It was a friend of my mother’s who launched the idea: ‘You have a beautiful voice, why don’t you become an actress?’. On the day of the entrance exams I was terrified, so much so that I felt sick. I recited a piece from Elettra, I was madly excited, I apologized to everyone, I interrupted myself. they took it. After a year I became Strehler’s partner. And it was a scandal. I was twenty years old, he was married, there was no divorce and, what’s more, he lived alone, he was a leftist and an artist.”

The date of the funeral has not yet been announced. Vanoni in 2023 with his usual irony to Fabio Fazio, in the living room of “Che Tempo Che Fa”, revealed that he had given instructions on the organization of his eventual final farewell: “The Dior dress, the cheap coffin because I want to be burned and then thrown into the sea, maybe in Venice”.
