Oasis have learned not to look at the past with anger

Oasis: Is it a reunion? Announcement tomorrow morning

Yesterday Noel Gallagher posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) that could be the prelude to a sensational and unexpected reunion of the band, up to now Oasis. The former guitarist of the English band has in fact announced a date using the graphics of the logo of the Oasis: ‘27.08.24, 8am’.

Noel didn’t say anything else. So until tomorrow morning, millions of fans of the heroes of 90s Britpop will be holding their breath waiting for the good news, namely the return side by side of the Gallagher brothers.

But there’s more. Last night in concert in Reading Liam Gallagher – now busy with the tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of the release of the band’s first album Oasis “Definitely Maybe” – dedicated the Oasis song “Half The World Away” (b-side of the single “Whatever” (1994) to his brother Noel, telling the crowd: “I want to dedicate this song to Noel fucking Gallagher.” To close his set, Liam then shared the same clip Noel posted on X.

As reported by the Daily Mail, a source told British newspaper The Sun: “Noel and Liam will never be best friends but they want to bring Oasis back for the fans. They’re getting older and the demand is huge. They decided it was now or never. Noel put his foot down for a long time but finally caved and agreed to come back. He’s spoken to Liam on the phone and they’re on the same page. They know this reunion will go down in music history.”

Jonathan Shalit
chairman of agency InterTalent, also told The Sun that they could earn more than £400 million from the tour and everything that would surround a reunion. “With tickets, sponsorship, merchandise and film, I’m looking at Noel and Liam earning over £50 million each. This is a tour that could easily gross over £400 million.”

Voices from across the Channel are putting forward the hypothesis that the
Oasis
were promised a £50 million advance to reform and embark on a world tour. It is said that it was this generous sum that convinced the Manchester brothers to bury the hatchet 15 years after their last stage appearance together, before Noel walked out after a furious row backstage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris in August 2009.

In recent years
Liam Gallagher
at various times, seemed inclined to put the group back together but always found a wall on Noel’s part. Some suggest that Noel is now in financial difficulty and this has led him to open up to his brother.

Fans, rightfully excited about what could happen, asked Liam on X how much truth there was to the possible reunion of the
Oasis
he replied: ‘See you in the front row.’ Also adding: ‘I never liked that word EX.’ Despite the thaw between them, Liam still had a swipe at his brother. When asked what he would say to Noel once they were back on stage, he replied: ‘Keep up with it.’

The usual well-informed sources report that the Oasis are due to reunite for the first time at next year’s Glastonbury Festival, before performing at their hometown of Manchester’s Heaton Park, and a series of ten concerts at London’s Wembley Stadium are also scheduled. Now all that’s left to do is wait until eight o’clock tomorrow morning.
