Nick Cave: shared the extract of an unpublished with Bryce Dessner

Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner of the National have united forces in a new song for the next release film entitled “Train Dreams” and Netflix. The song brings the same title as the film and will be present in the credits.

The soundtrack of the entire feature film was composed of Dessner, who together with Cave and Luis Almau is accredited as a co-producer of the song.

Of the song “Train Dreams”, which will be included in the official soundtrack to be released on 7 November and in vinyl on November 14, it is already possible to listen to a preview. In addition to the trailer of the film, a video was published to present the song by Nick Cave and Bryce Dessner:

Directed by Clint Bentley and available on Netflix from November 21st, “Train Dreams” is an adaptation of the novel by Denis Johnson and features Joel Edgerton as Robert Grainier, a lumberjack and railway worker who – reads the plot – “leads an existence of unexpected depth and beauty in rapid change of the early twentieth century”.

On the involvement of Cave in the Fiom song, the director said: “When we started thinking about a song for the film, Nick seemed to me the perfect artist. It was discovered that ‘Train Dreams’ is one of his favorite books ever, but initially he feared not to have time because he was about to start on tour. Then he saw the film, he felt inspired by writing something and everything was very quickly made.” He added:

“I knew he would create something beautiful and intense, but the ending of the film has a very delicate tone, difficult to grasp, and I did not want a song that pushed the viewer in another emotional direction. Yet, from the beginning, Nick and I were on the same wavelength. He read me some verses on which he was working and I was almost overwhelmed by the situation: I was a fan for so much time Art, but to listen to written verses on purpose for a film I had made. Man who has lived an intense and meaningful life, despite the pain and suffering “.

Bentley continued: “The fact that Nick and Bryce were able to collaborate so much strictly made the song perfectly integrated with the soundtrack. Both were very open from a creative point of view. The plan that Bryce engraved as the base of the song seems an extension of the magnificent soundtrack that composed, and the verses of Nick seem to grow organically from there. Regarding Dessner’s work on the soundtrack, Bentley continued: “Bryce is a generous and open artist. This is our second film together and, with ‘Train Dreams’, there was a continuous exchange during assembly: he sent me ideas and ideas that he was developing starting from the images and the script. This helped to shape the rhythm and atmosphere of the film. His music is transcendent ”.
