Nada stopped being “exact” many years ago
It seems almost incredible to say but Nada turns 70 today. It’s incredible if you think about his very long career, which began at the very young age of 15 when he took part in the Sanremo festival with the song “But it’s so cold”. The musician from Livorno is still in full swing, both in concert than in the recording studio. And it is with the review signed by Ernesto Assante of his latest album “Fear goes away by itself if thoughts shine”published in 2022, we wish you a happy birthday.
You make albums, or records depending on what you want to call them, for many different reasons. Nada does them out of internal necessity, without haste, without anxiety, when what she has to express naturally takes the form of songs. And even saying ‘form’ is perhaps excessive, because the songs on this new album, “Fear goes away by itself and thoughts shine”, do not have an exact form. Also because Nada doesn’t really care about accuracy, she stopped being “exact” many years ago and she cultivates this freedom with patience and passion.
Now, it is clear that the album, like the path that Nada has undertaken for many years, and which has already transformed into dense and interesting albums such as the most recent “It’s a difficult moment, darling” of 2019, does not it is exactly in tune with the music that is popular. And it is clear that it is precisely in this very clear individuality that Nada’s songs take on greater meaning and meaning. But it is also true that we are, in this way, very far from easy listening, each song requires attention, it deserves it, to fully understand its meaning and fully enjoy its beauty.
In short, it is not something to be listened to ‘in passing’, both for the precious work that Nada has done on the lyrics, and for the equally precious musical work that John Parish has done to close the circle, as producer and musician of most of the songs. . But at the same time the enjoyment is high, each song has a different slant: it ranges from ballads to rock blues, from sharp and gritty moments to intimate and whispered ones, from the openly CSI tones of “Chi non ha” to the more colorful ones of “You never ask me about myself.”
A mixture of emotions, feelings and sensations that have in common the sense of truth, of Nada’s desire to tell her story, sometimes explicitly, others crypticly, but without lying, without ever wanting to hide. It is an album that does not respond to any rules other than those of Nada.
