Mike Portnoy: “My favorite concert? The Wall by Roger Waters”
The drummer of Dream Theater Mike Portnoy during an interview with Words & Music revealed what was the greatest live performance he’s ever witnessed.
The 58-year-old New York musician replied without hesitation: “I would definitely say Roger Waters’ ‘The Wall’ concerts. ‘The Wall’ is one of my favorite albums of all time and one of my favorite films of all time. So it must also be considered one of my favorite concerts of all time.”
He went on to say, “I didn’t get to see Pink Floyd in 1980. But I saw Roger Waters perform at that concert a few years ago. And it was one of the most epic productions I’ve ever witnessed. And I don’t think it will ever be topped in terms of favorite concert.”
The tour ‘The Wall Live’ Of Roger Waterswhich ran from 2010 to 2013, was a great success in every way. The massive scale of the production was matched by its commercial success, with an elaborate staging who recreated the wall from the concept album Pink Floyd in 1979. The Independent reported that the tour grossed nearly $460 million over its more than 200 shows worldwide.
