March 3, 1986, Metallica's “Master of Puppets” is released
In 2012 a survey conducted among its readers by the US edition of Rolling Stone crowned “Master of puppets” of the Metallica which is the best metal album of all time: “There was practically no competition”, commented the editors of the US magazine, “'Master of puppets' completely defeated the competition. And this does not surprise us, being the third album of Metallica a photograph of the band at the height of their power: it is the last album made with Cliff Burton (the bassist who died on September 27, 1986 near Ljungby, Sweden, in a car accident involving the group's tour bus, ed.), and is considered by many to be their last perfect album.
Like Black Sabbath's earliest works, 'Master of Puppets' is a monumental record, which inspired entire generations of musicians, pushing scores of kids to play an instrument, and which took a long time to be fully appreciated by critics.”
The group led by James Hetfield boasts three other albums in the top ten (“…And justice for all” in fifth position, the “Black album” in the eighth e “Ride the lightning” in tenth, while the rest of the podium is completely occupied by Black Sabbath, who see them place “Paranoid” And “Black Sabbath” in second and third position respectively: “The number of the beast” of the Iron Maiden stops at fourth place, while Slayer's “Reign in blood” stands at sixth place. The presence of is controversial “Appetite for destruction” of the Guns N' Rosesin seventh place: “There are doubts about whether it is a real metal album”, admitted those who compiled the ranking, “But we are not the ones who have to judge: it is such a beautiful album that it deserves to be included in the ranking of the 'greatest records in history', regardless of genre.”
“Master of puppets”the third album by Metallicawas released on March 3, 1986. The title track is the classic par excellence of the Californian band, it is in fact the most played song by the group in concert.
