Lzzy Hale: “On stage with Skid Row was a dream come true”
Lzzy Hale recently had the pleasure of fronting the Skid Row for a series of shows. She has also earned compliments for her performances from Jon Bon Jovi.
Skid Row needed a singer after the departure of Erik Groenwall due to health issues earlier this year. Lzzy stepped up and led the veteran rockers for four concerts in late May and early June.
In a recent chat with Eric Vanlerberghe of “The Prevails”, as part of Consequence’s “Two for the Road” series, Lzzy also spoke about her experience as the lead singer of Skid Row. While Lzzy is an accomplished rock star in her own right with her long-time band, the Halestormgetting the chance to sing for Skid Row was a childhood dream come true.
“I brought the CDs of the Cinderellaof the Skid RowOf God and of Alice Cooper at sleepovers where the other kids would usually listen to Backstreet Boys or Boys II Men,” Lzzy recalled. “So, Skid Row are the men who raised me. … the little boy inside of me was screaming when he got the call from Skid Row.”
Jon Bon Joviwho played a major role in helping get Skid Row off the ground in the ’80s, gave Lzzy a big endorsement after those four shows. “Please, Lzzy Hale, join Skid Row. Put the two bands together if you have to. But this is the best thing that’s happened to Snake (Sabo, the band’s guitarist) since he met me.”
Regarding her reaction to Bon Jovi’s praise, Lzzy said, “First, my inner teenager is like, ‘Jon Bon Jovi knows who I am! ‘ And then I’m like, ‘Oh my God, how sweet of him to say all that. ‘”
Meanwhile, Lzzy will return to perform with Halestorm on the band’s newly announced tour with I Prevail.
