On the pages of the newspaper of the newspaper today on newsstands, the 74 -year -old guitarist, made for an appendicitis and forced to skip the concerts of 24 June in San Sebastian in Spain and 27 June in Gelsenkirchen in Germany, has made it known that “it will be a last minute decision”.
Fans will therefore have to wait until tonight to find out whether Little Steven will acquire or not alongside the boss, in San Siro. In the interview granted to Corriere della Sera, the guitarist – to whom Hbo dedicated a documentary, simply entitled “Steve Van Zandt”, on Skyarte on July 5 – also spoke of the Springsteen and Street Band relationship with San Siro:
Are they trying to break it down, do you understand? We have played everywhere and we can say it: it is the largest stage in the world, it has personality, heart and soul. It seems that the sacred places of rock’n’roll are not interested in anyone and we have already lost many. This is one of those who should remain, it is a criminal thing. Our promoter Claudio Trotta is on a mission to save him, I hope the Italians oppose this operation dictated by avarice.
And on the retreat from the scenes:
We decided that we will stop in … 2074. It seems to me, in short, in about fifty years, when it will be our penny anniversary together on the stage.
