From Shablo to Kesha: the albums out this week
From the awaited Shablo project, anticipated by that “my word” who – between Soul and Hip Hop Old School – the producer presented at the last Sanremo Festival together with Guè, Joshua and Torento, on the return of Kesha: music does not go on vacation and this week will also be full of new record releases. Here are our advice.
Kae Tempest – “Self Titled”
The acclaimed musician, poet and author Kae Tempest returns with his fifth studio album, “Self Titled”, coming out on July 4th. The album, consisting of 12 tracks, is the most intimate and detector project of Kae to date. “Self Titled” does not only explore those who are Kae as an artist, but also digs in the essence of his person. It is bold, witty and, at times, deeply touching, in surprising and persistent ways. The collaboration with the producer winner of a Grammy – already at work with Adele and Stormzy – has created a synergy full of new ideas and unexpected directions. Fraser has encouraged Kae to actively participate in production and guided him to write firsthand, telling his story. The result is a work that sees the artist reconnecting with his hip hop roots, while making a delicate tribute to contemporary pop.
Shablo – “Manifesto”
After preparing the ground with “My word”, a song presented at the last edition of the Sanremo Festival, and other pieces as “free spirit”, a tribute to Stevie Wonder, Shablo is ready to release his new album, “Manifesto”. The project will be released on July 4 for the newborn Oyster Music and for Island Records, a job in which the producer has brought with full hands in its cultural roots: jazz, soul and, of course, contemporary black music. Numerous collaborations, still to be announced, embellish “manifesto”. Among the guests: Joshua, Torento and Mimì, the last winner of X Factor, who will accompany him to the Street Jazz Tour 2025.
Kesha – “Period”
Will it be the right time that we will return to talk about Kesha only in relation to his music, after the news of the news of these years (starting from the long and painful cause against his former producer Dr. Luke)? Let’s hope so. “Period” comes two years after the surprising “Gag Order” of 2023, the album – engraved with Rick Rubin’s hand – with which the former voice of “Tik Tok” displaced everyone among art pops, experimental music, electronic and psychedelia. The album was anticipated a year ago by the single “Joyride”, released on July 4th: not a random date, in the USA, but the day of independence. In the single Kesha he celebrated hers, of independence. Finally free from the constraints that bound it at Kemosabe Records, the label – controlled by the RCA – founded by Dr. Luke, the pop star sang its freedom. The car ride he talks about in the text of “Joyride” is of course a metaphor: the 2025 Kesha is not afraid to show herself blossomed, brazen, bold. Exaggerated, above all. After “Joyride” four more songs arrived. In the order: “Disappointal”, “Yeppe-Ki-Yay”, “Boy Crazy” and “The One”. And now it’s up to the album, the sixth of Kesha Rose Sebert’s career, this is the real name of the singer -songwriter. In the songs Kesha ranges from EDM to synth-pop, from hyperpop to country.
Dropkick Murphys – “For the People”
“For people”: the Celtic Punk of the Dropkick Murphys in their thirteenth studio album becomes more populist than ever. Proudly populist, it would be said. “Who’ll Stand With Us?”, “Who will be by our side?”, Ken Casey and companions ask in the single who anticipated the release of the album. And the text reads: “We were robbed of our freedom / We were kept submissive and in debt / with the heads and bankers / who have never given their part / of blood / sweat / tears”. Poetry and anger.
