Brit Forever: Liam's Concert at Sziget Was a Triumph

Liam Gallagher to Glen Matlock: “Fuck him”

Back and forth between Liam Gallagher And Glen Matlock founder and first bassist of Sex Pistols (replaced by Sid Vicious).

In a recent interview with NME magazine, 68-year-old Glen Matlock has, among other things, expressed his opinion on Oasis’ 2025 reunion tour (Read here). And his opinion wasn’t the best, bluntly defining the Manchester group as “boring”.

“If you’re a fan, the excitement about the return is understandable. They have a lot of fans,” observed Matlock who also added: “I’ve always seen Oasis as a bit like Status Quo. For both bands it’s like that: feeling one song once is enough.”

The bassist toned it down by even calling the Gallaghers “good guys” and praising Liam as a singer and frontman: “I think Liam is fantastic. He sings very well – he’s like Johnny Rotten but he can sing. He’s got a magnetic personality on stage – he can stand there and it’s compelling” and then hits home: “I think they’re boring in person.” Which he has actually already done twice as he himself confesses: “They invited me to see them at Earl’s Court. I left. It was boring. I went to see them again upstate New York with Clem Burke from Blondie. Not I couldn’t wait to leave.”

Naturally, Matlock’s criticism reached Liam Gallagher. When a follower on Twitter asked him what he thought of the comments, the singer was lapidary and frank (and he certainly couldn’t have been otherwise given the “character” of the younger two Gallaghers).

“Fuck it. Sid was the Pistols,” said Gallagher, referring to Sid Vicious, the bassist who replaced Matlock in 1977.

Oasis’ reunion tour kicks off on July 4th in Cardiff, Wales, with North American dates starting in August. The Sex Pistols – with singer Frank Carter replacing Johnny Rotten – will also tour in 2025.
