Led Zeppelin: an unpublished video of a 1979 concert is published

After staying in a drawer for 45 years, videos never seen before the Led Zeppelin have been brought to light. Filming, for a total of 13 minutes, were made on 8mm film during the concert of the legendary band at the Falkoner Center in Copenhagen, Denmark, on July 24, 1979. The show was the second date of two heating concerts before the last live in the United Kingdom, scheduled in Knebworth the following month.

As reported by “Louder Sound”, the revolved shot was made by Fan Lennart Ström, which revealed the existence of the ribbon last summer. Filming were subsequently scanned by the US company Reel Revival Film and subjected to color correction by the Pink Floyd Research Group, before being synchronized with an audio recording of the concert in question.

In an interview for “Led Zeppelin News”, Ström explained: “We had a super 8 camera with us to test a new film suitable for closed environments. It was not a problem to let it enter, it was quite small and I think I hid it between The trousers and the back. He added: “According to the newspapers, the concert of the previous evening was a disaster due to some electric faults caused by the laser. When we arrived, there were generators in the alley we crossed before entering. We did not understand why they were there, But I remembered the military service that they were generators.

Telling that he had “kept the video in a drawer for all these years”, Ström then revealed: “I made a digital copy, even if not as good as yours, but I can no longer find it. I showed it to some Friends, guitarists, who went crazy.

The video with the filming found, uploaded yesterday 18 February on the YouTube channel Ledzepfilm, includes pieces of executions of “The Song Remains the Same”, “Black Dog”, “Nobody’s fault but mine”, “Over the Hills and Far Away”, “Misty Mountain Hop”, “Since I’ve Been Loving You”, “No Quarter”, “Hot Dog”, “Rain Song”, “Stairway to Heaven”, “Whole Fight Love” and others. Among the highlights of the reported recordings there is also a Jimmy Page guitar solo.

In the description of the video we read: “I am excited to publish 13 minutes of filming, made in Super 8, one of the best LED Zeppelin concerts after 1973 and their last show in Denmark! It was a big day when my friend Mark Donahue of the podcast ‘Heart of Markness He found a comment by Lennart Ström in which he said he had filmed this concert. The rest is history! Special thanks to Mark and Lennart for making all this possible, as well as in Quazza di Reel Revival Film for the excellent scan and Nuff of @Thepfrg for the extraordinary color correction work “.

The publication of the unpublished movie comes a few days before the release in the Italian cinemas of “Becoming Led Zeppelin”, the first official documentary on the band, which includes other rare live clips of the group. The film, directed by Bernard Macmahon and co-discrehened and produced by Allison McGouty, is at the cinema as an event only from February 27 to March 5.
