Jovanotti is also in David Byrne’s Italian playlist
“Remember when the pandemic forced us all to stay home and people in Italy opened their windows and sang along? Here’s a wide selection of Italian singers, some recent, some not, some traditional and some quite radical. Many of these artists are, or were, quite popular in Italy, even if they remained more or less unknown here in the US”. And David Byrne pays homage to Italian pop, introducing his fans to some gems of Italian music. The former Talking Heads frontman has created a playlist entitled “Italy sings”, available on Apple Music and Spotify, which he shared with his followers, all dedicated to the music of our country. Inside there’s everything: from Jovanotti to Fabrizio De André, from Paolo Conte to Franco Battiato, from Avion Travel to Adriano Celentano, passing through Domenico Modugno and Carmen Consoli, who in 2015 wanted him at his Meltdown Festival London.
Byrne chose five songs from the Sicilian singer: “Volevo fare la rockstar”, “Madre terra”, “Mandaci una postale”, “Il pendio dell’abbandono” and “Le cose di sempre”.
“This is a personal playlist, reflecting my tastes. There are rock bands, opera singers, DJs, rappers and EDM artists… and some pop artists who have won awards at the Sanremo festival and have been at the top of the Italian charts for years,” says Byrne.
