Joan Thiele is ready to play all her cards

Anyone who loves and carefully follows contemporary Italian music has undoubtedly come across the name of Joan Thielerefined singer-songwriter and producer (here is our interview) whose sound world ranges between R&B, soul, jazz allusions and international vocation, with a cinematographic system that recalls the soundtracks of Italian cinema of the 60s and 70s, by Piero Umiliani to Piero Piccioni. A more mainstream audience, however, will have the chance, and also the luck given her talent, to meet her at the next edition of the Sanremo Festivalan important launch and relaunch opportunity. Because if it is true that the Italian-Colombian artist has always been loved and appreciated in certain circles, she hasn’t yet managed to achieve true stability with her music. In recent years, in fact, he has left his mark more on other people’s projects than on his own: among many he has worked in “We, them, the others” by Marracash, in “Obe” and “Maya” by Mace where he is the protagonist of some of the producer’s most beautiful songs such as “Breathless” and “Journey Against Fear”.

His musical and aesthetic imprint has always been original and is based on a refined approach to pop music. A sonic awareness that, starting from the ep “Operation Gold” found its sequel in “Atti”, a release divided into three episodes published in 2021where an imagery strongly linked to the world of films emerges. In May 2023 he won the David di Donatello for Best Original Song with the song “Proiettili”, sung with Elodie and taken from the film “Ti devo il cuore”, presented at the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival. A beautiful piece that was written by the two singers together with Elisa and Emanuele Triglia, the latter producing it together with Joan Thiele. Before his debut on the Ariston stage he decided to strike a blow with “Veleno”, the new song which anticipates his next recording project which will be released in the spring. The song is written by Joan and produced by Callum O’Connor. Here too the sound is inspired by the great Italian soundtracks, there are echoes of Ennio Morricone, but everything is interpreted in a modern key. Anger and emotion are told in this track.

Anger like hungerthe driving force of a high-performance society in search of a perfect world. And there is a conscious loss of control, a necessary action to overcome one’s fears and reach full self-acceptance,” we read in the presentation. In the song, Joan dialogues with the “negative” part of herself. As if he were looking at himself in the mirror: he sings about a “diablo” that he sees reflected and from which he decides not to run awayactually seeking a confrontation and challenging him “I won’t run away from you, I only stare at myself in the mirror” and again “You know I’ll leave, you can’t hurt me anymore now that I don’t have, I’m no longer afraid”.
