Jimmy Page's final farewell to Duane Eddy
The former guitarist of Led Zeppelin Jimmy Page paid homage with an affectionate message, entrusted to his Instagram channel, to what was defined as him “rock 'n' roll's number one instrumentalist of all time”that is to say Duane Eddie who passed away at the age of 86.
These are the words of the 80-year-old English musician: “I am saddened by the passing of Duane Eddy. I first saw him perform at the Granada in Kingston in November 1963 and at the top of the bill that night was Gene Vincent. In 2011, I spoke to Duane on the radio from BBC Studios thanks to the producers who had arranged a connection with him in Nashville. Duane was hosting a Les Paul tribute show and we discussed the enormous contribution Les had made to the world. Most recently, in 2018, I had the chance to meet Duane and his wife when he performed at the London Palladium with Richard Hawley. That evening he was introduced on stage by Whispering Bob Harris and it was a pleasure to have the chance to meet him – he was a truly lovely man. Duane Eddy played the sound in the late 50's and 60's and you can hear his sound pop up throughout the decades of popular music. He will be missed and my thoughts are with his family. RIP, Duane.”
