Jimi Hendrix, the first ‘official’ documentary in the works
“Jimi” is the first documentary on Jimi Hendrix officially approved by the heirs of the great artist, who had never before authorized video works focused on the life and works of the guitar genius who died in 1979 at the age of 27.
The work was entrusted to director Bao Nguyen, already known to music fans for having signed “The Greatest Night In Pop”, a documentary on the making of the 1985 charity hit “We Are The World”.
“Telling the story of Jimi Hendrix during his pivotal years in London is both a profound honor and a unique responsibility,” said Nguyen. “London has always been a city that inspires me. Having lived there, I felt a deep connection to its creative energy, just as Jimi did when his creativity reached extraordinary heights. I approach this project with deep respect for his legacy and the cultural significance that lies within.”
“Through this film, I hope to capture the vibrant atmosphere of the 1960s music scene and his meteoric rise to fame, culminating in his legendary performance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, a triumphant homecoming where his incendiary performance not only set his guitar ablaze but ignited a cultural shift that changed the course of music history,” the director concluded.
“Just as Bao Nguyen has done in his films by shedding light on the lives of other iconic figures who have influenced pop culture, this presentation of Jimi’s London experience will be both inspiring and informative,” concluded Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister and a steward of his legacy: “A story told as it should be.”
