Jack White’s Untitled Album Now Has a Release Date
Now the untitled album by Jack White, originally received as a gift by customers of the rocker’s record stores, has a release date. “No name”, as the album has been renamed by fans (here is our review), will hit the market tomorrow, Friday, August 2, to be purchased and listened to officially and not in a pirated version as requested by the former White Stripes to fans who received it last month.
For those who missed the story, things went like this: in mid-July, visitors to Third Man Records stores in Nashville, Detroit and London received a free envelope from the clerks containing a mysterious vinyl record without a cover, with the words “Heaven and hell” in the center of side A (the same title as a 1980 Black Sabbath album) and the words “Black and blue” (the title of a 1976 Rolling Stones album) in the center of side B. Only once they got home, after putting the vinyl on the turntable, did the fans realize that the voice was that of Jack White and that the songs on the vinyl were unreleased. White made a surprising request via the record label’s social media channels: to share the album’s tracks online in a pirated version, so that even those who hadn’t received the vinyl could listen to them. “Today you have shown that the rumble of something mysterious can transform into a beautiful community experience,” was the comment that appeared on Third Man Records’ social media channels.
