Jack White Releases Album, Tells Fans: ‘Spread It Pirate’
First he releases a surprise album, selling it exclusively in stores of Third Man Records, his record label. Then he asks fans to illegally distribute that album online, passing the tracks around and sharing them in pirate mode. This is the bizarre move by Jack White, who on Friday left visitors to Third Man Records stores in Nashville, Detroit and London with a vinyl containing unreleased tracks, only to then ask fans who had purchased it through the record label’s social media channels to upload the tracks online and share them with other fans who had not yet purchased the album.
Fans didn’t need to be told twice: the album was uploaded in its entirety to YouTube, while on the official Reddit page dedicated to White, some even shared a link to a Google Drive folder containing the recording of the tracks.
