“It was once the world”: the reunion of the CSI is not a dream
It was enough that Gianni Moroccolo, a few days ago, published an old documentary on the CSI on social networks, with the writing “It was once …”quotation of their song “of the world”, To grow even more the rumors of a possible reunion of the band. We, in October last year, had already alerted you: the return of the rock group is far from a dream. There are bases, there is a dialogue between the components, but above all they are coming appropriate times.
Yes, because the CCCP will end their farewell tour in July of this year, and who knows that from this autumn the CSI engines cannot be set to start. Just as it originally happened with the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the dissolution of the first punk band of Giovanni Lindo Ferretti and Massimo Zamboni, The CSI could continue the saga, in a fascinating historical course. But there is not only romanticism, it is clear: the reunion tour of the CCCP, at the level of numbers and therefore it went wellit is natural that one can think of an “after”, dusting off the band that was born from those ashes and then aimed upwards, the CSI precisely.
A curiosity: during the press conference to present the Farewell Tour of the CCCP, The journalist and colleague Michele Monina asked without turns of words if a return of the CSI was actually on site, making Annarella nervousthe “merity soubrette” of the CCCP, who replied that that was not “the time to talk about it”, without allowing Zamboni and Ferretti to answer. Another confirmation that something concrete is there.
Historical courses and appeals, it was said. After the end of the CCCP in 1990, with the fall of the Berlin Wall that took place in 1989 and the consequent disintegration of a world, what remained of the original band (Giovanni Lindo Ferretti and Massimo Zamboni, the “Emilian nucleus”) met with A “Tuscan nucleus” out of the Litfiba, composed of Gianni Moroccolo and Francesco Magnelli, who had already collaborated on the latest CCCP album“Ethnic Ethnic Ethical Pathos”, together with their sound technician, Giorgio Canali. To these was also added a female voice, that of Geneva Di Marco. In essence: the CSI (independent players consortium) were a second life, after the CCCP.
But between the two bands there have been and there are giant differences: The former, as we also noticed in the Reunion tour, are closely linked to an imaginary, a physical dimension and performance that, today, cannot have the same evocative and disruptive force, also for a personal issue, of the one that was at the beginning. Their pieces have always been crazytechnically they are more basic than those of the CSI, they are affected by the influence of punk and have as its objective, from the fastest to the slower ones, to shake the listener. The songs of the CSI, on the other hand, are “songs” in the highest sense of the term. Both musically, and verbatim. They are structured, dense. They no longer feed on an imaginary, they create it.
They are songs often they have roots between the borders of the planet (like those of the beautiful “Tabula Elettrified Rasa” of 1997, inspired by a trip to Mongolia and arrived at the top of the Italian rankings, a historical result for independent rock), They speak of war, of crumbling of the West, of values that are crushed by consumerism but resist, of the search for freedom, of spirituality, of men who become machines. In addition, the CSI were much more complex also as “movement”, a label was created around them, launched artists and marked the rock landscape. The one who wrote the CSI, unlike the CCCP discography, today is not only more current than ever, but has been preserved in an excellent way also from a technical point of view. “It was once the world.” And that musical world of CSI, we bet, is about to return.
