Is Paul McCartney’s hand in Rush reunion?
Sometimes it takes a legend to put a legend together. There was a lot of discussion of Geddy Lee’s decision and Alex Lifeson to reform the Rush for a tour in 2026, with the addition of Anika Nilles on drums, but perhaps not everyone knows that the hand could be hidden behind this turn Paul McCartney.
It was from that interview with the “Washington Post” of 2023 that it was rumored that Lee, bassist and singer of the Rush, was seriously re -evaluating the idea (until that taboo moment) to continue playing together with Lifeson in the name of the band after the death of Neil Peart. When asked how they had come to that decision, Lee attributed to McCartney the merit of having helped them.
It all started when the two musicians agreed to perform the tribute to Taylor Hawkins in 2022. Hawkins had introduced the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and, in his memory, agreed to play a set with the participation of several famous drummers. At Afterparty, Sir Paul – one of the idols of Lee and Lifeson – congratulated the couple, exhorting her to return on tour after seeing the audience’s response to their performance.
“It was a taboo topic, and playing those songs again with a third person was theelephant in the room That, somehow, it disappeared, “said Lee.” It was nice to find that, if we had decided to go out together, Alex and I, both as part of a new project and like Rush, could do it. “And the announcement could also have come before, if it had not been for the guitarist’s health problems, who had recently undergone surgery for stomach problems.
“He needs to feel good, healthy and strong,” said Lee at that moment, about any future projects, “and then we will talk about it”. They talked about it. And McCartney’s advice has been listened to.
